Stepping Stones
Photos by Image This Photographics
This public installation was commissioned by the City of Richmond, British Columbia and co-created with fiber artist Deirdre Pinnock. It lives permanently in the Richmond City Centre Community Centre at 5900 Minoru Blvd.
The stepping stones offer playful and perilous paths, providing lift-off and landing for eye instead of foot. The dominant colours and forms of these seven pieces of fibre art suggest qualities such as compassion, joy, harmony, and historical awareness. These are the qualities each of Richmond’s residents must cultivate in order for the city to reach its goals of a diverse, distinct, and sustainable community.
